The AWG table is a real help to design wires and cables and to understand their construction. It gives you the gauge
, the wire?s construction ? for example 7x50 : 7 twisted wires of gauge 50- the diameter in mm, the section in mm˛, the
approximate weight (in gramme/meter) and the ohmic nominal resistance (in Ohms per 100 meters).
There is no international standardized gauge for copper conductors, the American gauge is considered as a standard.
Created by J.R. Brown in 1857, the gauge has the following property : it approximately represents the successive steps of the wire-drawing process.
