2 Martian years!

Curiosity has just completed its second Martian year- this is comparable to 4 years on earth. The Rover continues to explore the Red Planet. On board, an electrical liaison developed by Axon’ Cable equips the ChemCam, the instrument which analyses the rocks and provides high resolution images.

The ChemCam (chemical camera) consists of a laser which splits the rocks, a telescope, a radio-navigation camera and associated electronics. The cable assembly designed by Axon’ is the liaison between the electronic system and the telescope. This 25 cm long interconnect is composed of a flat cable and terminated at each end by micro-D connectors. Vibration resistance (up to 50 G), protection against electromagnetic interference, space saving, non-outgassing, these are the requirements which had to be met. 4 earth’s years later, the link is still working.
